A Total Failure

Fri Jul 18, 2008 at 06:16:31 PM PDT

In an associated press article yesterday, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi called Bush a Total Failure. Not his policies, but the man himself.

"You know, God bless him, bless his heart, president of the United States, a total failure, losing all credibility with the American people on the economy, on the war, on energy, you name the subject"

Katrina Trailers

Just wondering. How could I find out about the purchasing process and who made the trailers used by FEMA post Katrina?

Question about Global Warming

Sun May 11, 2008 at 05:16:28 PM PDT

My brother and I are going rounds about Global Warming. He is a staunch conservative so obviously doesn't believe it is real. Below the fold is a couple exerpts from our conversation.

Iraqi Prisoners

Thu May 08, 2008 at 10:04:46 AM PDT

I was surfing around the internets and found this story at Truthout.org.

Wrong on so many levels

Was perusing the local paper and just had to share this.

I Need Help

Tue Nov 13, 2007 at 04:29:47 PM PDT

My conservative brother sent me this stupid email about a father and daughter.

Oops! They did it again

Tue Oct 23, 2007 at 09:41:16 PM PDT

Following in the footsteps of the recommended diary be seesdifferent, another reason that we are hosed. Once again the White House has suppressed scientific information that details the effects of Global Warming. The CDC prepared a report about the health effects to Americans due to Global Warming.

Blackwater out of Iraq

Wed Oct 17, 2007 at 07:34:54 PM PDT

That's right, unbelievable but true! Don't know what else to say. I looked and couldn't see any other diary mentioning this. I realize that this should be on an open thread but I thought that people would like to comment on this.

This is a crime

Sun Sep 23, 2007 at 07:34:55 PM PDT

I was reading the article that was linked to on a diary on the recommended list by Richard Cranium.  About 3/4 of the way through the article are a couple of paragraphs about the United States holding up delivery of chlorine that the Iraqis need due to a cholera outbreak.  Now, cholera is a real shitty disease and dehydration is a real life-threatening possibility.

Iranian Cooperation Significant

Thu Aug 30, 2007 at 10:40:23 AM PDT

This is the title to an A.P. story in the news today.  Which means expect war soon before the IAEA can prove that Iran is no threat. Juan Cole has a diary on the Rec list that spoke about rolling out a media offensive in September.  The article states that a final report is due in November.

It won't hurt me at all

Sun Aug 19, 2007 at 10:31:14 PM PDT

So here I am after coming home from a night at work only to log on and read an article about our Army will be too stretched if the build-up lasts.

What comes around...

Sat Mar 03, 2007 at 12:33:21 PM PDT

goes around.

I was just reading an AP story about mines left over from the Iraq/Iran war that are being used as roadside bombs to kill our soldiers. The Army officer in charge stated that approximately 15% of the roadside bombs are made from these left over mines.  Iraqi farmers who cannot get any work due to the nonexistant economy over there are risking their lives to go into fields and dig up old land mines and then sell them on the black market.  I wonder if any of those mines have US markings on them. This is what happens when the US (read: neocons) intervenes when they shouldn't. Thanks again Mr. Rumsfeld and Mr. Cheney.

Sheehan's Grave

I receied an e-mail from my wingnut brother about Cindy Sheehan's son's grave:

The "I" word

Tue Jan 30, 2007 at 03:10:33 PM PDT

I was just listening to the Cafferty File on Wolfie's Situation Room and the Question of the Day dealt with Bush's use of a Private army called Blackwater.  Two of the responders called for Impeachment and for the Congress to do something about this.
I think that as more and more comes out, the Democratic majority better start doing something substantial as opposed to just jumping up and down and screaming NO or they will have a short tenure as the majority. Passing legislation that forbids the use of any entity other than U.S. Armed Forces would be a big step.  I wonder if anyone in the Democratic majority has the balls to introduce legislation.
The American people are starting to use the "I" word, not just us Kossacks(did I spell that right?).

What is winning?

Sun Jan 07, 2007 at 11:25:41 PM PDT

I read in an article last night that Sen. Lindsay Graham said

"more troops are needed because the U.S. military never had enough personnel in Iraq to get the job done".

"If we don't start over, and do what we should have done in the beginning — having enough people to win this war — we will pay a heavy price," he said.

"They never talked one minute in that letter what happens to Iraq when we leave," Graham added. "In all honesty we are not winning, and if you're not winning, you're losing. And now's the time to come up with a strategy to win."

I guess my first question to Sen. Graham would be if we never had enough troops in Iraq to start with, how is adding another 20,000 troops going to help, now that the country is in the middle of a civil war?
The second question that I would like to ask him is, is to define "winning"
What in the hell is "winning"; a pro-American democracy?, any kind of democracy?, stable to the point that they aren't trying to kill  us or each other?.
Please answer these two questions Sen. Graham, and then we know what the rules are.

Is this for real?

today I read a quote from our Dear Leader

Military Budget

Fri Nov 10, 2006 at 08:19:47 AM PDT

One thing that you need to address in your first 100 hours is revoking all money for the "Star Wars Missle Defense Shield" and apply that money to increased pay and benefits for our brave military.
If you truly want to be strong on Defense you will do this and also put money towards rebuilding and retooling all of the broken machinery of the Active Duty and Reserve Units.
Cancelling the section that gives the President the right to federalize the Nat'l Guard would also be a step in the right direction.
Any other suggestions would be welcome.

Jeb Bush cornered

Sat Oct 07, 2006 at 03:27:46 PM PDT

I found this from the A.P.

"Protesters greeted Florida Gov. Jeb Bush on his way to a campaign event for a Pennsylvania senator, and he briefly took refuge in a subway station supply closet to avoid the anti-Republican demonstrators."

"Officers used stun guns to subdue two protesters, saying they disobeyed orders to disperse, said Bob Grove, a Port Authority spokesman."

"The protesters, made up of members of the United Steelworkers union and the anti-war group Uprise Counter Recruitment, chanted, "Jeb go home," and said Bush blew them a kiss."
