WIRED Magazine

I'm so confused about how to feel about this article in WIRED: In a Letter to His Kids, Wired's Founding Editor Recalls the Dawn of the Digital Revolution.

Fool me once, can't get fooled ... uh..

Why now?  Why take down Imus now?  He has said outrageous, obnoxious and offensive things for 30 years.  What’s different?  The recent uptick in his outrage about this administration and this war and the mistreatment of our troops could not be allowed to continue.  The ’08 elections are getting closer.  He has been getting louder and louder about this.  If you listened to him every day you just knew that someway or the other he was going to have to be silenced. The ONLY thing he has done differently is to increase his opposition to this war and this administration.

Fun with "Find and Replace"

Sat Sep 02, 2006 at 09:27:01 AM PDT

In the last couple of days since the arrest of Warren Jeffs, head of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints group, I noticed that many of the articles were sounding like they had been written about the fundamentalist, inbred republicans running our country.

For fun I ran a few of them through the "find and replace" function of Word.  I went back through them and changed names, places and took out irrelevant parts. Here they are for your perusal.

By the way if anyone finds this politically incorrect or insensitive in any way, go jump in a lake.   (uh...but if I am breaking any copyright rules, let me know)

Democrats & Republicans Together At Last

Fri Jul 28, 2006 at 04:09:24 AM PDT

for the purpose of attacking a Democratic candidate.

Ok, I don't get this at all.  Here in Oklahoma, we had a Democratic candidate for State Senate (Drew Dugan) viscously attack another Democratic candidate Andrew Rice.   It apparently was planned well in advance, as Dugan laid low until just days before the primary at which time he sent out horrific flyers and made inflammatory phone calls to constituents.

These are the people who can save us

I haven't paid much attention to local politics, but thanks to KOS I have recently become aware of the importance of this. Really, how could I have been so naïve.  My daughter told me about a young man, Andrew Rice, running for State Senate here in Oklahoma. He had come to her college class to speak.  He is not in my district, so I cannot vote for him, but when I went to his website Andrew Rice   I was totally amazed that we had this quality of candidate right here in Oklahoma. I can't vote for him but I can support him in other ways.

C-Span to re-air Conyers Hearing June 17th

Wed Jun 15, 2005 at 03:38:31 PM PDT

Just received an email that reads: Thanks for your inquiry about C-SPAN's coverage of Thursday's meeting with John Conyers regarding the Downing Street Memo.  We recognize that there is a great deal of interest in the meeting, which is why we are carrying it live on as many C-SPAN platforms as we can: C-SPAN3, C-SPAN.org, and C-SPAN radio, which you can hear on XM and Sirius satellite Radio.  This program is scheduled to re-air on Friday, June 17th at 8pm ET on C-SPAN2.  Please check our TV Schedules at c-span.org for programming information (please remember the schedule is subject to change).

C-SPAN and C-SPAN2 remain committed to live coverage of the U.S. House and Senate on a week when the Congress is dealing with several major pieces of legislation.  But this is exactly the reason why C-SPAN3 was created.  So, if you have an opportunity, please tell your satellite or cable provider that you want C-SPAN3.

Thank you for your interest in the C-SPAN Networks.

No More Cures in America?

Sun May 01, 2005 at 09:41:57 AM PDT

For the first time in 20 years, the National Institutes of Health is receiving budget increases that are below current inflation levels.  It is true that the NIH receives a large amount of money for research and medical science, but that amount is spread over multitudes of scientists.  The administration will use this amount of funding to say, "look, science is receiving LOTS of money."  The administration reports things in this purposefully dishonest way, as we well know. So don't believe it when they say that science funding is sufficient. The medical research discoveries being reported right now are coming from PREVIOUS investment dollars.

Email from Keith Olbermann's agent

Tue Nov 09, 2004 at 01:41:11 PM PDT

I know I should be using all the correct formatting, but am at work, and don't have time to stop and figure them out, so that said -

I sent a copy of my email to Keith Olbermann to several of the media and I received a few back, one from his agent, Jean Sage.  See below.

My email:

Subject: Sent to Keith Olbermann, MSNBC: How does it feel . .

to be the most revered newscaster on tv last night?  All other newscasters are just saying the same thing as each other.  You have the attention of many of the brightest and creative minds (not the most well known minds) in America.  Hopefully you will have the attention of hundreds of thousands more when the word gets out about you.  And these are the people who need at least one channel they can listen to.  Many (most?) of us no longer listen to "mainstream" media.  It's just way too mind numbing.

I am very glad to pass information regarding your show to many other people who have given up on the news.  I would think your show would have some pretty creative marketing strategies now that you are being "exhalted" by the smart people.

Pentagon objects to families being reimbursed for combat equipment

Although the Pentagon objects, Congress has approved it.  NO MATTER - the whole issue is shameful!!

Congress Backs Combat Gear Repayments
By JOHN FILES

Published: October 31, 2004

http://www.nytimes.com/2004/10/31/politics/31gear.html

WASHINGTON, Oct. 30 - Despite objections from the Pentagon, Congress approved a Defense appropriations bill this month that includes a measure to allow soldiers, their families and charities to be reimbursed for the cost of some combat equipment for use in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The provision, sponsored by Senator Christopher S. Dodd, a Democrat from Connecticut, permits such groups and individuals to make claims for up to $1,100 for those purchases made between Sept. 11, 2001, and July 31, 2004. It has been sent to the president and would take effect after he signs it.
