Sunday Morning thoughts of a veteran

Sun Feb 24, 2008 at 03:45:47 AM PDT

I have lived a long life, interesting and full of adventure and strange twists to it. I made a comment in BeninSC  diary earlier this morning that got me to thinking, which isn't hard to do these days.

but my diaries about me are interesting how many (2+ / 0-)
other Kossacks can write about   drugs, chemical weapons, Nazis, the CIA  Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld and have it be the truth   I mean c'mon it's more like a bad B movie  and the truth is stranger than fiction  welcome to my world  rofl

I have lived since Eisenhower was President, Kennedy and Camelot, the Hillside Strangler, Charles Manson, the Zodiac Killer, Vietnam, the Korean DMZ, Nixon, Watergate, 444 days Iran held Americans Hostage, the Beirut Bombings, 1972 Munich Olympic Games and the Israelis, the Bader Mein Hoff attacks of the 70s, Carlos the Jackal, and now I have lived thru the worst American Administration in history. I know that is an opinion but I have a lot of experience to base it on.

I spent my life supporting this government, and it is not the government of George W Bush, nor Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld or any of the other neocons in power, now and gone like Gonzo the worst AG in History, Brownie and FEMA, the gutting of the EPA and environmental measeures to protect Americans, hell even the Consumer safety Boards have quit enfocing rules to protect out children from lead paint from China. The only thing that has mattered in the Republican controlled Congress since Newt's "Contract on America" has been corporate profits, and consolidating power for the Republicans.

Which they did do, Karl Rove the "evil boy genius" set up the perfect trilogy of Neocons, Social Conservatives (faith based) and financial conservatives, what did they say in 2004 that he had created a decades long Republican controlled government that would last well past 2050.

What happened in the past 2 years that has destroyed this grand vision? Has it been the complete disregard forthe American way of life we came to expect, "Honor, Duty and Country" those fully little words that makes us "Americans" that go back to 1776?

We expect our neighbors to be decent honest folks, that government would be for the people, by the people and of the people? Instead a few bad apples decided that we the people did not know how to run "the best government in the world" they decided a few chosen people "rich" knew better than old Fred who did his job by cleaning the floors of your kids elementary school, or Mike the Infantry Sergeant, or Habib the local store guy, or people like Martin Luther King Jr that saw a better nation for all of us.

People like Donald Rumsfeld, Dick Cheney, The Bush Family, the Clintons the Ted Stevens and family, the political dynasties, decided they knew better than the rest of us combined, so we have people like William Krystol and Charles Krauthammer that become paid political mouth pieces to sell us their polluted thoughts and tell us that we don't know what we are seeing and instead of believing our own lying eyes, we should believe their lying words.

That "waterboarding" is necessary to keep us safe, forget 60 years ago we procesuted the Japanese for doing it as a war crime, that the same programs the CIA and the Army ran from 1953 thru 1975 at Edgewood Arsenal using 7120 human subjects as "guinea pigs" for chemical weapons and drugs authorized by the Presidents and national Security Councils and Joint Chiefs of Staff onn Army enlisted men were the exact same experiments that Nazi researchers like Mengele and Strughold were charged with war crimes for at Nuremberg, yet our government cleaned up some of the Nazi scientists war records and made them just regular old German xitizens so they could immigrate into the US after WW2, and then were employed in the federal governments version of the Nazi experiments. The ends justified the means, did it?

I don't expect miracles from this election, I am glad Karl Roves prediction of a 50 year rule by a Republican party accountable to no one died a quick and merciful death, I don't think even a great nation like the United States could have survived that. We would have been totally bankrupt, morally and financially, I still have hope that the workd our childred will inherit will be a decent one, it won't be the one we got from our parents back in the 50s, things are worse, and there is no vision of them getting better anytime soon. As John Edwards has said many times there are 2 America's the haves and the have not's unless you have the  millions and up  you are one of the haves, the rest of us are the have nots, what is a middle class anymore? I use to think I was a part of it, but I have learned I can't afford a Disney vacation, the Bahama's, Hawaii, forget the great barrier reef, and  Thailand  so I am not one of the have's.

The closest I will even get to those places is on the internet. I want the hope that my grand kids may one day be one of the have's, so against all odds, I am hoping that the democratic Party will mend itself, and Hillary will accept the VP slot on an Obama Ticket and America will have the best team they can run against McCain and whomever he picks as a running mate. I hope Hillary's vanity and Obama's pride keeps them from uniting this party for the nations sake, I could care less about how Hillary feels or Obama feels, they both proclaim to want to reach across the aisle to republicans to fix this nation, how about reaching across the desks on Feb 26 in Ohio and declaring a unity ticket the democrats can agree on a first of epic proportions a black man for President and a woman VP  what more could the nation need at a point like this?

If they love this nation and the Democratic Party this is the only solution I see, otherwise the divisions before November could destroy any chance of beating McCain and his 100 year Iraq War.
